So I sat down tonight and drafted a thank you note to my OB/GYN and her medical assistant that took such good care of me after two horrific days in the ER. Even though I’m happy with the words, I can’t help but think they’re not the right ones or they’re not enough. It felt nice to say thank you to two people who probably don’t expect to hear it after such a shitty event. I tried to end it on a happy note and let them know I can’t wait to see them under better circumstances. I hate Debbie Downers. Sigh…I seriously love the way writing feels when it comes to making peace with everything.
That is a wonderful thing to do. I know it’s a different situation but I used to be a high school teacher. My days were often filled with lots of negativity and bad experiences. Every once and a whole, I would receive a letter or token if appreciation from a student. I can’t tell you how much it impacted me. Knowing you made a positive difference in someone’s life is one of the best feelings there is.
I’m a school teacher so I completely understand your point of view! It truly is those moments that make it worth it. You said you used to teach – have you switched careers? I’ve been toying with the idea and I’m not sure what’s a good jumping off point.
